My thoughts on current-day Sesame Street... and Elmo @ 09:37 pm

I just realized that "Sesame Street" celebrated its 40th year on television in 2009. It may not be what it used to be (Elmo became bigger than anyone expected, and they're trying to get Abby Cadabby to the same levels of popularity with girls) but there's still some quality programming among the current episodes if one is willing to give it a shot.

I actually don't hate Elmo. My favorite has and always will be Grover, but I don't hate Elmo. Even with Elmo as popular as he is, I honestly don't see him "hogging" the spotlight like many old-school fans claim. He has a daily 10-15 minute segment, and he's in some of the non-Elmo's World skits, but outright dominating? I don't see it. The other characters get as much -- or even more screen time. Heck, every time I get a chance to tune in, I see an awesome skit with Grover.

Different strokes, I guess.

Anyway, my birthday is only around a month away; I'll be 24. Will no doubt get a bit of cash for my birthday to do what I want with it. Am thinking of taking of any cash and buying a prepaid credit card, so I can shop online. There's a very nice looking Sesame Street 40th anniversary full-color book, along with a DVD set with some very nice old-school clips which will probably never be shown on TV again. Might get either one if they're affordable.

Also I've seen some cool SS character face t-shirts at Walmart and Target lately. May even go that route.

We'll see.

Elmo's my favorite Street character. I'll admit he worked better as a supporting player on his first ten years on the show rather than the main one but the bashers are out of their minds.

I'm a Grover man myself, too, but Elmo's still cool. I haven't seen any Sesame Street in so long, it just feels like Elmo has taken a lot of the spotlight because you see Elmo merchandise everywhere.
