Evidentally the old Sesame Street episodes are inappropriate for children. @ 01:54 pm

Gotta love political correctness.

First of all, I LIKE political correctness. I think it's nice that people have a guideline of how to treat other people with respect. Some people dislike it because it means they can't be a complete jerk without being called on it. Those kind of people don't have my sympathy.

Second of all, the warning put on Sesame Street Old School has nothing to do with political correctness. The show was made for a different demographic when it originally aired and was slightly "edgier". I think it's fair warning for parents who don't exactly remember the original episodes to know that the show was originally made for grade school kids rather than preschoolers like it is today.

Sorry, for the nitpicks. It's just the Sesame Street geek in me. :P

I don't think everybody has their facts straight here, so I'm popping in to clear some things up.

First of all, as somebody who owns Volume One of the Sesame Street Old School collection, I've seen the "warnings", if they can even be called that. What they actually state is that when those episodes were made, the curriculum was different and therefore these shows may not suit the educational needs of today's children. Far from political correctness.

The second volume, which I do not yet own, marks the beginning of the masterpiece theater sketches where Cookie Monster has a pipe in his mouth and that's what this whole controversy is over.

Accidentally clicked "post comment" before finishing. Anyway, I wanted to also mention that if the warning DOES mention the shows being offensive for pipe smoking, then it'll be a little over the top. Kids seeing a puppet smoking in a sophisticated setting is much better for them to see then real people smoking cigarettes in the middle of the street. Yet only one of those has a warning....

Yeah, I found that out later.

It was cleared up by someone on a forum I go to.
